This exceptional German violin, crafted by W.A. Pfretzchner in 1893, is a remarkable example of 19th-century German workmanship. Built in Markneukirchen, Saxony—a region known for producing some of Europe’s finest string instruments—this violin exemplifies the elegance, tonal depth, and craftsmanship associated with the Pfretzchner family name.
Instrument Details
The violin features a one-piece flamed maple back with beautifully defined curl, matched to a tight-grained spruce top. The varnish is a deep reddish-brown over a warm golden ground, showing tasteful patina and wear consistent with its age. The scroll is finely carved and retains the original blackened chamfers typical of the period.
Professionally set up and adjusted by our in-house luthiers, this instrument offers a powerful, resonant tone with exceptional warmth and clarity—ideal for advanced players or professionals seeking a historically rich and expressive violin.
