While Pernambuco has been the top wood choice of bow makers for the last couple hundred years, the scarcity of the wood and new regulations governing the sale and harvesting of Pernambuco has led to scarcity of new pernambuco bows and big price jumps. L'Archet Brasil has introduced a new lineup using a similar wood known as ipe or Brazilian walnut. Ipe is a broad term used for several similar species of trees. After trying several similarly-priced pernambuco bows back-to back with ipe bows, I'm happy to report that, in blindfold test, our violinists couldn't pick out the differences between the ipe and pernambuco bows. L'Archet Brasil will still be offering ipe bows even when  pernambuco is again available for export. Try these bows and discover how good they are. We were able to choose these bows out of a huge selection to offer the best in playability and tone production.
