The G. A. Pfretzchner company was founded in 1834 and the Pfretzschner family continued to sell and produce instruments until the 1930s. They were based in Markneukirchen until they ended operations the 1930s. This violin is a fine example of the company's work with highly flamed maple being chosen for the back and sides. The top is fine mountain grown spruce with great detail given to arching and construction. This Strad model and has been tonally adjusted by Kennedy Violin luthiers to get a fantastic sound.
Tonally, this violin has a very mature and played-in sound that projects evenly in every register. It leans toward being clear or bright, but has really good depth in the lower register. This well-cared-for violin would do well in the hands of a very advanced student or professional player who wants a violin with powerful singing tone.
As a bonus this violin comes with a GA Pfretzchner nickel mounted violin bow and case. The violin bow does need some restoration work to be in good playable condition, but is included in the sale at no additional cost.
