This 1924 Enrico Robella violin is a beautifully preserved example of early 20th-century European workshop craftsmanship, modeled after the classic Stradivarius pattern. Featuring a striking two-piece maple back with strong, even flame, this instrument immediately stands out visually, complemented by a well-flamed neck and matching maple ribs. The varnish presents a warm golden-brown hue with natural aging and light wear consistent with its age, giving the instrument an authentic, played-in character.
Instruments labeled “Enrico Robella, Milano” from this period are widely understood to have been produced in the Markneukirchen workshops of Ernst Heinrich Roth, one of the most respected German violin-making firms of the early 1900s. These instruments were commonly made for export to the U.S. market and are known for their consistent build quality, attractive tonewoods, and reliable tonal performance.
Tonally, this violin delivers a strong, projecting sound with clarity and focus. It responds easily under the bow and offers a balanced voice across all registers, making it well-suited for advancing students, orchestral players, or anyone looking for a mature, resonant instrument with character. The Stradivari-inspired arching contributes to its direct projection and clean articulation, while the aged wood provides warmth and depth that newer instruments often lack.
The violin is fitted with quality ebony fittings, including pegs, fingerboard, and tailpiece, ensuring durability and smooth tuning stability. It has been professionally set up and adjusted for optimal playability, with comfortable string height and responsive feel.
As with many instruments from this era, Enrico Robella violins have remained popular due to their combination of historical appeal, tonal reliability, and strong value within the vintage market. These instruments continue to be widely played and appreciated, offering a compelling alternative to modern workshop violins.
This is an excellent opportunity to own a vintage European violin with strong visual appeal, proven tonal performance, and a connection to one of the most influential violin-making regions of the early 20th century.
